From a Vibrant State in Western India, Gujarat, to the Land of the Birthplace of Buddha and Beyond: My Journey in Studying a Bachelor’s in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages at LBU.
Lumbini, the serene birthplace of Lord Buddha, holds a special significance for people around the world. For me, it became a pivotal point in my academic and personal journey. This stepping stone not only grounded me in the profound teachings of Buddhism but also propelled me towards an exciting future in China. My experience studying for a Bachelor’s in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages at Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU) has been nothing short of transformative.
Hailing from Gujarat, a vibrant state in western India, the decision to pursue my higher education in Lumbini felt like a calling. The peaceful environment and the rich cultural heritage surrounding LBU were immediately appealing. The journey itself, from the bustling cities of Gujarat to the tranquil plains of Lumbini, was a stark but welcome contrast. It was a transition that allowed me to immerse myself in a different pace of life and truly focus on my studies.
Choosing the Bachelor’s program in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages at LBU was a deliberate decision fuelled by a growing fascination with the Chinese language and culture. The program at LBU is thoughtfully structured, providing a strong foundation not just in the language itself—encompassing everything from mastering the intricate tones to understanding complex grammar—but also delving into the pedagogical aspects of teaching it to others. The faculty members are dedicated and approachable, always ready to guide us through challenging concepts and share their insights. The classroom discussions were often lively, filled with diverse perspectives from students of various backgrounds, creating a rich learning environment.

Beyond the classroom, the very location of LBU offered a unique advantage. Being surrounded by monasteries and the spiritual atmosphere of Lumbini provided a deeper context for understanding the cultural nuances intertwined with the Chinese language, particularly its historical connections with Buddhism. Exploring the sacred sites and interacting with monks from different parts of the world enriched my understanding in ways I hadn’t anticipated.
My dedication to learning Chinese and the comprehensive education I received at LBU opened up an incredible opportunity: a scholarship to further my studies in China. The journey to secure this scholarship was filled with anticipation and a fair share of hard work, especially preparing for the HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test). The support and encouragement I received from the faculty at LBU were instrumental in this process. When the news finally arrived that I had been awarded the scholarship, it felt like a dream come true. Now, as I prepare to embark on this exciting new chapter in China, I carry with me the invaluable knowledge and experiences gained at LBU. The journey from Gujarat to Lumbini was just the beginning. LBU has equipped me with the linguistic skills, pedagogical understanding, and cultural sensitivity to confidently step into a global environment and pursue my passion for teaching Chinese. I am deeply grateful for the enriching experience at Lumbini Buddhist University, which has not only shaped my academic path but also broadened my horizons in profound ways. This journey is a testament to the power of education and the incredible opportunities that arise when dedication meets the right environment. I eagerly look forward to the next phase of my adventure in China, carrying the spirit and learning’s from Lumbini with me.
